Hello, my name is Joyce. When our family moved from Nevada to California in 1988; Steven and our daughter decided to become Open Water certified. I wasn’t so sure I wanted any part of that because I wasn’t as comfortable in the water as they were. So I walked the beaches and picked up shells while they went diving. After a year and a half of waiting for them to finish their dives and for me walking on the beaches; I told Steven I was ready to try scuba. My first experience on scuba was a swimming pool environment. It gave me the opportunity to be in full scuba gear and see what it felt like to breathe under water. It was a lot easier than what I expected and being under water was not at all what I thought it would feel like. I enrolled myself into an Open Water course and I was on my way towards my diving adventures. There were a few hurdles for me to climb over; but once I decided it was fun I didn’t let anything stop me. My eye sight is not so good so I had corrective lenses installed into my dive mask. I got cold in the ocean; so I had a custom wetsuit made for myself. As I dove more and more I graduated into a dry suit.
The number of dives and my diving abilities increased after Steven & I purchased Aqua Divers in 1991. I continued to take courses and I have the rating of a Stress & Rescue diver. In the summer time I dive local lakes such as Tahoe, Donner, Little Grass Valley and Lake Almanor. For northern California ocean diving; I go to Fort Bragg to scuba dive and camp. For southern California ocean diving; I dive the “PEACE” boat that Aqua Divers charters for a three-day live aboard diving trip. I have enjoyed diving internationally in various places such as Belize, Roatan, Utila, Cozumel, Curacao, Grand Cayman, Fiji, the Philippines and Malaysia.
