AQUA DIVERS NEWSLETTER
SEPTEMBER 2011
At the September meeting we reviewed how well the Annual Donner Lake Crawdad dive weekend went. Everyone in attendance said they enjoyed themselves and had a great time catching those critters and then enjoying having them for dinner in a Cajun spice boil with corn, potatoes, celery, carrots, bell peppers and zucchini.
Steven & I want to say thank you to everyone that helped prepare vegetables for both the dinner and breakfast. When everyone pitched in it didn’t take long to get into a full roll. Then everyone had a chance to visit with each other, enjoy the drinks and hors d’oeuvrs. The salsa that Frank brought went over quite well. And the garlic bread that Keith prepared disappeared really fast.
For breakfast we had sweet rolls that Carl & Donna brought, 3 flavors of muffins and cinnamon rolls that Clyde & Evon brought, and 2 flavors of scones that Kristina brought. It is always nice to have that with a cup of coffee while waiting for the breakfast to be made. It takes awhile to coordinate three frying pans of crawdads, ham, vegetables, eggs and cheese.
After sorting out the crawdads and sending the little ones back into the lake to grow for another year or two we ended up with about 7 gallons of good sized crawdads.
Thank you to the dish washers. That is a big help as well. It’s not fun to take all those sticky dishes home to wash. I appreciate your doing that while I was doing other tasks.
We had a few problems in preparing the two meals, but we will not forget those little incidences for the Christmas party roast. We had a spice problem, a coffee problem, an egg problem, and a carrot and celery problem. They all got resolved, we all laughed about it and we sure didn’t let it bother us from eating the breakfast.
Steven & I also want to say thank you to those that helped us load everything up on the trailer and into the back of the pick up. With all of the pots and pans, tables, chairs, propane tanks, lanterns, stoves etc. it takes quite a lot of time to pack back up again.
On Saturday two dives were completed, but the third one was interrupted by a thunder and lightening storm. By the time we got everything loaded up and drove back to camp it was time to start dinner anyway. We had a little wind and some rain, but it didn’t get to the campground so we lucked out on that.
Then on Sunday there was a lake clean up dive to gather up trash. A few participated in that, others vegetated at the picnic tables and rested, others took a kayak trip down one side of the lake.
There was another thunder and lightening storm that came through, so we all got off the lake.
By the time we packed up the campground and drove back into Truckee for a bite to eat before heading home over the hill the sky opened up and we had a huge heavy torrential downpour along with small hail.
UNDERWATER PUMPKIN CARVING:
The next event that we will be having is the underwater pumpkin carving party. We scheduled it for October 16th. The pumpkin carving will begin at noon. We will be having a potluck that will start at 1:30. This year it will be held differently than what our members are used to so please read the following list.
You bring your own pumpkin whatever size or shape
Bring your own carving knife, tools
You decide how to cut and/or decorate your pumpkin
One rule is you still have to get the pumpkin to the bottom of the pool without holes in it
Once you get it to the bottom then you can puncture it however you want
Bring a potluck dish
Bring something for yourself for the barbeque or something already prepared for your main dish
There won’t be any prizes this year – only for the fun
