AQUA DIVERS NEWSLETTER

JULY 2011

Since we didn’t have a July newsletter we wanted to update you on news from July and upcoming events in August and September.  We will be having an August meeting on August 18.  Sorry that we  have been busy with Open Water classes and that we had to cancel the July meeting.

July 23 & 24 was a scheduled dive for Little Grass Valley Reservoir.  The weather was beautiful up there, not too cool, not too hot.  Leroy pulled Stevens boat up there behind his pickup so everyone could dive from the boat instead of shore diving.  They did three dives on Saturday and two on Sunday and had about 15 to 18 feet of visibility. They saw a couple of good sized Bass and catfish.  There was kayaking and swimming done by the non-divers all weekend.

One tip for your information (FYI) that we found out about the camping dates we chose.  The ECV – E Clampus  Vitus group takes over the Running Deer campground every 4th weekend of July.  This 4th weekend is there annual initiation weekend.  They are a very vocal, loud noise making, recruit yelling, hard drinking and swearing bunch of guys running around in red shirts.  So next year we will not be camping the 4th weekend in July and have seen what the campground looks like so have chosen some other sites more suitable for our use.

Reminder:  July 31 we will be holding a Safety Skill presentation for emergency SCUBA skills at the pool.  This will start at 12:00 (noon).  Bring all of your own gear.  The cost will be $10.00 for members and $15.00 for non members.  Scuba bottles will be available for an additional fee for those that do not bring there own.  This will be a short version of a scuba tune-up.  And this will be done with Steven and Carl in a pool class setting.

At 2:00pm we will start up the barbeque so bring your choice of meat to grill.  We ask that everyone please bring a side dish like a pasta salad, vegetable tray, coleslaw or something to compliment the grilled meat/chicken/hot dog/hamburger.  If you care to bring a dessert as well that is entirely up to you.  Lately our pot luck choices have been a little slim.

For August 21; we have the salmon fish ladder dive scheduled.  We are waiting to see how the water is running by then.  Right now there is a lot of water coming over the Oroville Lake spillway.  And the two dams created for the salmon are flowing hard.  We will keep you informed of whether that dive will still stay scheduled for that date or we might have to rearrange it.

The Donner Lake crawdad dive is scheduled for September  10th & 11th. Camping will be done at Goose Meadows.  Since we have changed the Dive Club this year; it is very important that you attend the August meeting because there will be a lot of information discussed and handed out about that weekend.  Steven will be up at Tahoe the middle of August and will stop in to talk to the camp host about reserving our normal site.  Right now all the sites are open except for one.   We are doing the Crawdad dive later in this year, so everyone is back in school so the campsites are available.

NEXT MEETING:   AUGUST 18, 2011

TIME:  6:30PM

WHERE:  AQUA DIVERS POOL, 1530 BRIDGE STREET, YUBA CITY
