AQUA DIVERS NEWSLETTER
APRIL 2011
There was a lot of information to go over at the April meeting, thank you for everyone attending. We know that not everyone cannot make it so the following is what was discussed.
First thing on the agenda was the Easter egg hunt scheduled for Sunday, April 17. We had an Open Water student that took the Open Water course for her senior project and we had to put her dives off for so long because of bad weather every weekend. Due to that fact; we had to schedule her Open Water dives on April 16 & 17. After discussing it; those in attendance decided to cancel the Easter egg hunt because there would have only been 4 people hunting the savage waters for eggs. Keith had retrofitted the eggs this year so they wouldn’t fall apart; but they will have to keep until next year. Thank you Keith for doing that and we will get around to using them.
The next scheduled dive is to Fort Bragg on May 7 & 8. We will be camping at Albion River Campground so if you are interested in going please make your reservation ASAP. We will hopefully get both Abalone and Scuba diving in on that weekend. We will have a pot luck dinner on Saturday evening and cook up some Abalone for everyone. Otherwise bring all of your own food, gear etc. for the weekend.
We are going to move our meetings from the second Wednesday of every month to the third Wednesday of every month. So, mark that on your calendar. We had a couple of people say that would work out better for them. It will still be at 6:30pm and still be at the pool.
Aqua Divers annual flea market is May 21, from 9:30 to 5:00 which is a Saturday. If you have any gear you would like to have us try and sell for you, please bring it in no later than May 18. Or stop by and say hello on that day and take advantage of some of our spectacular in-store savings.
When Steven & I went to the SSI training seminar we talked to a dive shop in Fairfield; “It’s All About Scuba” and they are sponsoring a “Knowledge Is Safe Diving” conference on June 11. They are to have several guest speakers such as; Dan Orr from Divers Alert Network, a NOAA representative talking about the sanctuaries along the Ca. coast, Karl Huggins from USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber, a representative from Ca. Ships to Reef-a Fort Bragg Project, a manager from the Aggressor Fleet, Dan Rodarte a rep from Aqua Lung and Whites Drysuits. It includes a breakfast, a BBQ lunch, an event t-shirt. There will also be raffle prizes. It costs $55.00 for advanced tickets and $65.00 at the door. There are several of us going down; so we can carpool. I am trying to get in touch with the person in charge of this, but he will not be back until April 22. I will get the time and the location from him since it is not on their flyer or website. I called and the girl working there doesn’t have any information more than what is on their website. But, I wanted to bring your attention to this event, so please consider going. I will keep you posted on a later e-mail.
One last date to put on your calendar is September 25. Whites dry suits is offering a DEMO day at Hurricane Bay on Lake Tahoe. The event will be a fun for all that participate. For the $10.00 registration fee, divers will have the opportunity to try a top of the line Fusion Bullet dry suit, have a barbeque lunch, receive a commemorative t-shirt of the event. Each person that tries a dry suit will be presented with an opportunity to purchase a suit with extra special factory incentives for having participated through a “participating retailer”. Register on whitesdiving.com website, pay the $10.00 and you will get a receipt. You must bring the receipt with you that day. If you do not have a computer I will be happy to register for you. Steven & I will be there that day helping in the booth.
