Monterey Water Conditions

AQUA DIVERS NEWSLETTER

March 2011

We had our monthly meeting on March 9th and went over a lot of pertinent information  that  we  hope will be helpful to you if you were not able to attend the meeting.

Due to the weather, economy, fuel prices at $4.00 a gallon, people having other commitments we decided not to go to Monterey this weekend; March 12 & 13.

The next scheduled dive is in Fort Bragg on April 9 & 10.  We will be camping at Albion River Campground.  If you are interested in going, please make your reservations now because it is filling up I was told when we made our reservations.  We will be doing Abalone diving and scuba diving.  Come join the fun of camping, getting ocean fresh air, walking on the beach, breath  hold diving for Abalone, scuba diving and great food.  Bring all of your own food for the weekend and we will have a potluck dinner on Saturday evening hopefully with some Abalone.

We put the Oroville fish ladder dive on the calendar earlier as an August dive.  But since then we found out that the best time to do that dive would be September to November.  We will have to ask a game warden or someone that would know exactly.  Sarah & Leroy drove up there last Sunday to check out the location that Leroy went diving there before.  There is parking space available, and an easy entry and exit point to the water.  There is a picnic sight available as well.  They recommended that we do it as a day trip.  After we are done diving; anyone that is interested, we could go to the Tool Museum in Oroville.

One other date that we would like everyone to put on their calendar is September 25th.  Whites Dry suit manufacturing is offering a dry suit DEMO day at Hurricane Bay on Lake Tahoe.  Joyce & Steven will be working the booth there that day.  If you or you know of anyone that is interested in trying out a dry suit this is the time to do it.   Here are some of the details:

The registration will be $10.00 and you pre-register on their website at:

          www.whitesdiving.com

Click on: Click here to see when there is a fusion Demo day in your area

It will pop up Fusion Demo dates – go to the September 25th date and press register

The event will be a great time by all those that participate.  For the $10.00 registration fee, divers will have the opportunity to try a top of the line Fusion Bullet dry suit, have a barbeque lunch, and receive a commemorative t-shirt of the event.  You must bring the receipt with you that day.   Each person that tries a dry suit will be presented with an opportunity to purchase a suit with extra special factory incentives for having participated through a “participating retailer”.  I’ve been told by Whites Manufacturing that it will be a tough offer to turn down.

You can Google Hurricane Bay and get information about the dive site.  There are picnic tables, restrooms and a nice beach there for the makings of a wonderful day.

If you know of anyone interested in taking the Open Water course here at Aqua Divers; we have a special going for the month of April. With the first Phase of the program we are offering the pricing at:  First person pays $225.00 and the second person pays $49.95.  Please call for further information and explanation.

We also talked about the Historical Women’s Group that is holding a walk around the Buttes this Sunday; March 13th.  It all starts at the Historical Society Museum on Butte House Road at 8:00am and goes until 3:00-4:00pm.  They want you to park your car there at the Museum and they will car pool out to the Buttes and start the walk.  If you are interested call the Museum and tell them you are coming.

The bike around the Buttes is April 16th.  You can register for the 17 mile, 40 mile or 100 mile ride.

If you pre-register it costs respectively;  $23.00,  $27.00, and $ 35.00.

If you register after March 15th it is  $28.00,  $32.00, and $ 40.00.

If you register that day it is  $ 33.00, $ 37.00, and $ 50.00.

If you are the 100 miler you start at 7:00am, all other racers start at 8:00am to 11:00am

They do have watering stations along the way and facilities.

The proceeds go to Diabetes for Type 1 & 2.

This will be their 26th year of doing this bike run.

Next meeting scheduled for:  April 13, 2011

At Aqua Divers pool, 1530 Bridge Street
                                                  It starts at 6:30pm
