AQUARIUS DIVE CLUB NEWSLETTER
JULY 2010
NEWS FROM THE JULY MEETING:
We got a report on the Lake Almanor weekend from the members present. The weekend was beautiful, the campground was right on the lakeside, the members that came all had a good time. The visibility was low due to the high winds that they have had up there all winter and spring. But, we got a lot of diving done anyway. Didn’t see any crawdads for whatever reason. Steven & Leroy looked for the lost fishing pole for Juan’s son Ule. They never recovered it and it is surmised that a large fish got a hold of the bait on the hook and pulled the fishing pole to deeper water.
The next dive weekend that was on the calendar was Little Grass Valley. We talked about what to expect for the weekend.
Steven & Joyce will not be able to attend the Fort Bragg weekend of August 7 & 8 due to the fire they had at their ranch. But, everyone else please go and have a great time.
We also talked about the weekend at Donner for the Crawdad dive. Keith will go up to Goose Meadows and talk to the camp host so we can get the same camping spot for our big crawdad feast.
The navigation poker run was set for September 11 & 12 at Tahoe.
MONTHLY PRESENTATION:
We had a presentation from Maura; whom is very involved with underwater hockey. They will be playing underwater hockey every 3rd Wednesday of the month at Gauche Water Park. She would love to have some of our dive club members become involved. It is held from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. They rent the pool for that period of time and would like to ask for a donation of $5.00 if you are participating in the hockey game. Be sure to bring your own mask and snorkel. They will let you use their short fins, the mouth guard that fits on the snorkel, hockey pucks and hockey sticks. As Maura said it is great conditioning and a fantastic sport to help you with your breath hold diving skills for Abalone diving. Maura also suggests try not to eat a heavy meal after 3:00pm or you will be very uncomfortable playing hockey. This is basically a non contact game, no rough housing. If they have enough people interested they will extend the number of times they will do it. SO COME ON GET INVOLVED – HAVE SOME FUN – IF NOTHING ELSE BE A SPECTATOR – GET OFF THAT COUCH AT NIGHT – BE A PART OF SOMETHING HEALTHY AND BENEFICIAL FOR YOU!!
