MAY 2010
NEWS FROM THE MAY MEETING:
We discussed the April 17 & 18 Fort Bragg weekend. The weather on land was beautiful. The wind was off shore, so there were some rollers out there. Steven, Leroy & Sarah went out to get some Abalone and Steven came back with his limit. Leroy & Sarah came back with upset stomachs. Steven, Christa, Adam, Jerry, Juan & Leroy went out on Saturday afternoon for a scuba dive. But there was an equipment glitch; in other words a piece of equipment was forgotten, so they had to come back to the dock. That is all it took for Jerry; he got seasick and they all decided not to go back out again. On Saturday evening we had a big Abalone feast and enjoyed a great dinner. Sunday morning brought out breakfast with bacon, scrambled eggs and tortillas. Steven, Christa, Juan and Leroy went out for a scuba dive on Sunday. Once they got down to about 25 feet, the surge stopped and it cleared up for a good dive.
MONTHLY PRESENTATION:
The May presentation was on the Whites Drysuits that we have just brought into the shop. Steven showed everyone the components of the drysuit, how easy it is to get into the drysuit, the three different styles, the differences between the 4 different styles of undergarments, and the three styles of booties you can use with the drysuit.
If you wish to try one of the drysuits out; we will do individual demos in the pool. And we hope to plan a demo day every once in awhile with small groups. If you are interested in that, stop by the shop and we will set up a date for you.
Next DIVE CLUB EVENT:
At the April meeting the members that showed up, discussed what kind of diving they would like to do this year since we don’t go to Monterey any longer and some people don’t want to go to Fort Bragg. So, we put Lake Almanor and Little Grass Valley on the calendar for this summer.
June 12 & 13 will be Lake Almanor – We will be camping at Lake Cove Resort. Call up there to make your own reservation at 530-284-7697 !!ASAP!! The address is 3584 Hwy. 147. We will be having boats up there to dive from, there is not any good shore diving in that location. A lot of boat traffic for one thing. This lower campground does not have hook ups and has only an outside potty facility. The hookups on the upper portion of the campground has hook ups, water and electricity and showers.
July 17 & 18 will be Little Grass Valley. The campground has not been chosen yet; but we will let you know.
DIVE CLUB EVENTS CALENDAR:
JUNE 12 & 13 – Lake Almanor – Lake Cove Resort
JULY 11 – Customer appreciation day – Aqua Divers pool – 2:00pm
JULY 17 & 18 – Little Grass Valley
AUGUST 7 & 8 – Fort Bragg – Albion campground
AUGUST 21 & 22 – Donner Lake – Crawdad dive
CONTINUED EDUCATIONAL ORIENTATION:
Remember every Tuesday of every month we have continued educational course orientation. It starts at 6:30 and meet at the shop. Sign up and get your package for any course you are interested in. It doesn’t make any difference if you are the only one interested in a course, the course dates will be set no matter how large or small the class size.
We just finished the Stress & Rescue and computer courses.
We have someone interested in the Nitrox course, but it will be last minute because he doesn’t know his work schedule more than just a couple of days out. If you are interested in Nitrox, let us know and we will call you when we set up the dates with him and see if you can fit into his schedule.
FIJI WARM WATER VACATION:
We still have three spots available on this exciting Fiji dive trip to Matava Resort. Please stop by with your deposit to hold your spot. It is a small resort; so there are not a lot of bungalows available. The dates are October 21 through October 30, 2010. This is an eco-friendly resort and has very pristine diving locations. We will see lots of soft corals, tropical fish, chances to see the large Manta Rays, and hopefully reef sharks. Don’t miss out of this trip or you will be sorry.
CHANNEL ISLANDS TRIP:
The dates for the Channel Islands trip are November 11, 12, 13, 2010. We have 7 spots available on this trip. If you have been to the Channel Islands before; then you know the kind of wonderful diving we have right off our coast. If you haven’t been there before; then go and find out first hand how beautiful our Channel Island diving is. The kelp forests are gorgeous, the Garibaldi come right up to you, sometimes you encounter a playful harbor seal. The food is wonderful and plenty of it. The diving camaraderie is very congenial and you meet new divers and have diving experiences to talk about.
