UPCOMING EVENT:
MARCH 7: The museum is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm. We will be leaving from Aqua Divers shop at 8:00am and carpool to Vallejo. It Is up to each individual what you care to do, but we are going to eat a hardy breakfast before leaving Yuba City, pack some fruit, granola bars and water for snacks. Then upon leaving to come back to Yuba City stop and grab a hamburger.
Mare Island museum and surrounding buildings and ships are being preserved and maintained to educate people about the history of the West’s first Naval base and shipyard. David Farragut founded the Mare Island shipyard in 1854. The Navy closed the yard in 1996, but it was operational until then with various naval activities. There were 500 ships including nuclear submarines built there. They are in the process of acquiring more ships that were built there and restoring them and housing them at the docks.
They do not charge, but do ask for a donation of $4.00 per person.
NEWS FROM OUR CLUB MEMBERS:
Evon Smith had flyers and posters available advertising the MS Walk for anyone that wanted to take them home and hand them out. I have them available in the shop and I also have posters on my store windows if you care for information about this, but were unable to come to the meeting. Or get ahold of Evon and she will be more than willing to help you out. The walk is April 24th here in Yuba City this year. The walk will start at Sam Brannen Park, up to and around the high school on Franklin and back.
